It’s Time for a change
Some of us haven’t reached our true potential due to a lack of consistency, which often stems from not having an established routine.
This resonates deeply with me because, for a long time, I had all these dreams and aspirations but lacked the consistency to work toward them. One day this year, I watched a sermon by Pastor Jeffery Flowers, Jr., that completely shifted my perspective:
Routine + Discipline + Consistency = Outcome.
Establishing a routine is the first step—and it’s crucial to ensure that it’s realistic. I’ve been guilty of creating routines based on where I wanted to be rather than where I actually was. It’s important to take gentle, baby steps when implementing your routine to avoid feeling overwhelmed. I’ve learned that starting small allows you to adjust your routine over time.
Some of the reasons I struggled to follow routines in the past were my lack of motivation, unrealistic expectations, distractions, lack of accountability, anxiety, depression, and feeling like I didn’t have enough time. These factors discouraged me. I had to be honest with myself, identify and eliminate the factors that hindered me, set realistic expectations, and prioritize my mental health.
Discipline is the act of training yourself to follow the routine you’ve set. It’s tied to understanding your “why.” When you discover your “why,” you’ll recognize the importance of staying disciplined. Discipline is what keeps you committed, even when it’s hard. For example, if your routine requires you to wake up at 5 a.m., discipline is what helps you do it—even if you went to bed late the night before.
Consistency is about doing something repeatedly in the same way. It’s what allows you to follow your routine regularly and harmoniously. I’ve learned that being consistent rewires our thought patterns and helps us develop lasting habits. That’s why it’s essential to focus on positive actions that will bring value, benefit your growth, and challenge you to evolve into the best version of yourself.
By creating routines, practicing discipline, and maintaining consistency, you can achieve outcomes that benefit your future.
Determine the routine that aligns with the outcome you want to achieve! Remember, whether good or bad, every routine produces an outcome.
